Standards Access

SNOMED CT^®, LOINC^® and Infoway software tools, are available at no cost to users with an active Infoway account. Simply confirm agreement of the Terms of Use yearly to maintain account. Fees are collected for use of HL7 International materials.

Infoway is your Canadian source for standards that facilitate the availability of accurate health information at the right time, to the right person – which may lead to improved patient safety, faster access to care, cost savings, and ultimately better outcomes for consumers, clinicians and the health care system.

These standards are used to code and accurately share data to support a wide range of business and clinical needs such as:

• Clinical decision support (e.g. alerts and reminders)
• Synoptic reporting (e.g. cancer care management)
• Safe and secure exchange of health care information (e.g. drugs, labs, diagnostic imaging) across the continuity of care
• Population health management (e.g. screening, public health)
• Data analytics (e.g. performance management, research)

To access licensed international and national health information standards (e.g. SNOMED CT), simply login with your Infoway Account and accept the license agreements annually. Information provided during Infoway Account registration may be used to respect our contractual commitments with licensors such as HL7 International and SNOMED International, or to request feedback on artifacts downloaded via Terminology Gateway or Terminology API. No membership required

Infoway has removed the barriers to accessing standards and standards based materials. Fees are only collected for use of HL7 International materials.

SNOMED CT, LOINC and Infoway software tools, are available at no cost to users with an active Infoway account. Users are required to confirm agreement of the Terms of Use yearly to maintain account activity. When the agreement to the Terms of Use for an Infoway account has expired, users will be required to reconfirm agreement of the Terms of Use before being logged in to any Infoway sites.

HL7 International Access

HL7 International Access is required:

• for all Canadian implementers incorporating HL7 materials in a product
• for discounts on HL7 conferences, education and certification
• to participate in HL7 International ballots
• to co-chair any of the HL7 International workgroups

HL7 International Membership is NOT required for viewing and/or downloading HL7 content from InfoCentral.

Access is for one year, April 1 - March 31, renewable annually.

Standards Access FAQ

Q Are there any fees to access Standards?

A. Standards access is available at no charge. Fees are only collected for select HL7 materials and HL7 International privileges.  This means that all SNOMED CT, LOINC and Infoway solutions such as InfoRMS, Terminology Gateway, Canadian FHIR Registry and others, are available at no cost.  The HL7 fee table and additional details is published above.

Q I tried to register for access to HL7 International but I live and work outside of Canada.  Why can't I access HL7 International Material?

A. Infoway's HL7 Affiliate Agreement stipulates that we can only provide access to HL7 International Material to members that reside in Canada, with the following exceptions noted below:

• Those living outside of Canada but working full time for a Canadian organization who has HL7 International Access with Infoway; or
• Those with business in Canada who are also HL7 International organizational members in good standing.
