2. Presentation – Collecting sexual orientation and gender identity data in primary care – Andrew Pinto, St. Michael’s Hospital and U of T.
Discussion touched on practices for collecting SO/GI data, use cases for data collection (when, where, to who and how much data should be presented, and who mandates it?), the importance of this information in informing medical practice, the importance of creating and establishing safe spaces for folks of diversity and supporting staff with complimentary education and practices expectations. Many people of sexual and gender diversity have been, and are, subject to discrimination. Talked briefly about ongoing work in this area with the SPARK study and a study looking at LGBTQ Youth in the shelter system. Discussed practices and mechanisms for engaging the community in standards and implementation planning.

3. Next steps with modernizing sex-gender info practices in EHR systems – Francis Lau, UVIC

Discussed timeline for CIHR Planning Grant and community consultation sessions – posted. Outlined activities to date include mind mapping session. Links posted. Presentation posted. Work on review/scan/report is ongoing.
