TOPIC: Defining a list of LOINC Systems for Microbiology

Defining a list of LOINC Systems for Microbiology 6 years 8 months ago #4216

LOINC Microbiology workgroup is working on defining a list of LOINC systems for Microbiology. The purpose of the special topics workgroup on the LOINC System for Microbiology terms is to review the spectrum of Systems used in LOINC Microbiology terms and to develop a proposal for a defined list of allowable System values for new terms. The workgroup will take into consideration the level of granularity needed in different domains, such as hospital laboratories, reference laboratories, and public health, the issue of specimen type versus specimen source, and existing ontologies for laboratory specimens.

The workgroup is currently looking for example listings of specimen source or types from LIS dictionaries which will serve as starting point for this development. It would be beneficial to us as LOINC users that our Canadian listing is represented on the final defined list of allowable System values for new terms.

Please post your list on this thread or email your listing directly to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
