Some time ago, HL7 International started charging a $100USD fee for registering OIDs in their registry. Starting in January 2018, this fee will jump to $250USD.
Infoway as the HL7 Canada delegated organization is able to register OIDs for free and is passing that ability on to its members. If you have a public OID that you need to register, you should take advantage of your Infoway membership and register it through Infoway. To register an OID, the member fills out an OID registration form. There is one flavour of the registration form for Code Systems and one for Identifier types. You then submit the registration form and an Infoway SME will review and QA the request. If appropriate, the SME will then register the OID with HL7. The turnaround time is 5-7 business days with HL7 and once HL7 has finalized the OID, it will be returned to the requester. This is a fairly simple process so take advantage if you have an OID you need to register! There is an InfoCentral page around OIDs: InfoCentral Home page > Tools > Object Identifiers (OIDS) The page contains the registration forms, the guidance on registration as well as some very good links to other OID information. |
